Serotonin is a monoamine neurotransmitter that is synthesized from the amino acid, tryptophan—which is found in chocolate. Tryptophan causes the brain to release serotonin, which controls many functions including mood and sexual behaviour. Consequently, the release of serotonin has been reported to produce some aphrodisiac and mood-lifting effects similar to being in love.
